“Provide… a practice setting court”

Excerpt from Xavier, a defendant at the Hall of Justice in winter 2022

Interviewer: Perfect. All right, thank you so much for that. Um, and now I have some open-ended questions for you.

Xavier: Ok.

Interviewer: If you could change the court system, what things would you change about it?

Xavier: Um…If I were--if I were able to change the court system, I would just change the...the approach, that they have towards, um, like just listening to people. I know a lot of people, they j--they're- like, they have court, and um, they go like expecting like to answer all these questions. But definitely, like um, for like your state or county, just to provide, like um--not necessarily a lawyer, but like a-a practice? Like, kind of like, a practice setting court. Just so they know what they're getting into and what the environment, is gonna be, on said court date. Just ‘cause, I-I think sometimes it can be kind of intimidating and people, are just kind of scared to go up there, you know, and answer all these questions. But um…like, definitely, just like, uh, to be giving general information on what, is gonna be happening in the courtroom, and, like, stuff like that.
